Prince Hall Freemasonry, which focuses on community empowerment, traces back to 1775 when Prince Hall and fourteen other free Black men were initiated into Masonry in Boston. This significant event marked the establishment of the first recognized Masonic organization dedicated to African Americans, known as Black Freemasonry.
Prince Hall (1735–1807), an abolitionist and community leader, championed education, civil rights, and social justice. His vision established Prince Hall Masonry as a vital platform for community empowerment and advancement within Black Freemasonry and Black communities.
Today, Prince Hall Freemasonry, a significant branch of Black Freemasonry, spans the United States and beyond, with thousands of lodges dedicated to brotherhood, charity, and community empowerment while preserving the rich traditions of Freemasonry.
